Scouting the Fire: New forward Diego Chaves has scored a first-half goal in each of the Fire’s first three games. The Fire (1-1-1, 4 points) is expected to have Patrick Nyarko available despite the injury he suffered Saturday at Seattle. Central defender Josip Mikulic is not expected to play.

Scouting the Portland Timbers: There’s a lot of excitement in Portland surrounding the expansion Timbers’ first game at Jeld-Wen Field. The Fire will have to find a way to quiet the crowd and counter the emotional lift the Timbers (0-2-1, 1 point) will get from the ceremonies.
