Loyola hires men’s basketball assistant

Chicago native Rodell Davis has been named assistant men’s basketball coach at Loyola University Chicago, head coach Porter Moser announced today.

Davis, who most recently was an assistant coach at Providence College, becomes the first member of Moser’s inaugural staff at Loyola.

Davis spent the last four seasons working for Keno Davis, the last three years coming at Providence. The 1987 Thornton High School graduate joined Davis’ staff as an assistant coach at Drake University in 2007-08, where he was in charge of the offense, scouting and recruiting.

“He is a true Chicago guy and we have made it a priority to recruit the city and the surrounding area,” Moser said. “I think he is a great fit here.”

Davis served as the head coach at Laramie Community College in Laramie, Wyo., from 2003-07 after working locally as an assistant coach at Proviso East High School and Thornwood High School. At Laramie Community College, where he also spent one year as the school’s athletic director, Davis was named Region IX Central Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Eagles to their first Region IX Central Sub-Region championship.

He began his coaching career in 1992 as an assistant under current Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan at Wisconsin-Platteville.

A 1992 graduate of the University of Iowa, Davis was a three-year letter winner playing for Tom Davis.
