Daily Herald report

Grayslake Area Public Library officials say worn out and unwanted athletic shoes of any brand are being accepted for recycling. Under the effort in collaboration with the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County, the library will be a drop-off spot for the shoes through April 28.

Anyone who comes by the library with shoes may place them on a special collection box. Worn athletic shoes will be ground up and turned into new sports surfaces and playgrounds.
