What’s the value of NU’s sex class?

With the recent expose of the live sex toy demonstration in “professor” J. Michael Bailey’s class, Northwestern University students should expect that their transcripts may receive increased scrutiny by prospective employers. The 600 students with the sex toy course on their list of studies might be thinking of a way to explain how participation in that course will make them a more productive employee and why another course might not have been a better choice to complete their college education. The 100 students who volunteered to remain for the demonstration should be prepared to answer to: What were you thinking?

NU officials, including the president, should expect a few questions from the parents who are spending $50,000-plus a year to send their children to NU and expecting a useful education. Those organizations and individuals funding the various foundations that provide scholarships to needy NU students should wonder if there isn’t a better place to put their money.

J. Michael Bailey should be fired. When given a chance to explain, he offered a non-apology apology and arrogantly volunteered that he would give those who dared criticize him an “F” for their argument. And the university president and members of the board of trustees should be ashamed.
