Icy roads causing multipe area accidents

Police officials are asking morning motorists to use caution due to excessively icy roads in the Chicago area.

Those conditions led to numerous accidents Thursday morning, specifically in Lake County.

The worst seemed to be the southbound lanes of Route 83 between Route 45 and Route 22 near Buffalo Grove.

That stretch of roadway was shut down for more than an hour by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department after one rollover and several spinouts took place on the slick roadway.

Officials said one person was injured when an SUV overturned into a ditch on Route 83 at about 6 a.m. The condition of the driver was unknown.

Police also responded to accidents in Mettawa, Itasca, Fox Lake, Libertyville, Gurnee, and Long Grove.

Officials said road conditions will improve as temperatures rise above freezing later this morning, but will become worse later today when temps dip back below 32 degrees.
