Spring hasn't sprung: Snow coming later today

Mother Nature is preparing to blast the area with winter one more time.

Snow flurries will greet evening commuters in the Chicago area as falling temperatures are expected to come in after the rain stops Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service said commuters should expect lingering showers that will mix with snow as the afternoon turns into evening Wednesday.

Highs will be in the mid 40s before dropping to the mid 30s this evening. Winds are expected to gust up to 30 mph during the evening commute, officials said.

Tonight, temperatures will drop to the low 20s, and heavier snow is expected to move in, officials said.

The colder weather will remain through the weekend and into early next week, officials said, but the precipitation should stay away until Saturday, when snow flurries are possible.
