Arlington Hts man gets 5 years for sex assault

A Cook County judge sentenced an Arlington Heights man to five years in prison this week in exchange for his guilty plea to criminal sexual assault.

Cook County Sheriff’s police said Carl Salters, 44, was on probation for assault and drug possession when they arrested him in December after responding to a battery call.

A teenage girl said Salters tried to choke her to prevent her from leaving a friend’s house, police said. The victim, who lived in the same neighborhood as Salters, later told police he had sexually assaulted her in July after providing her with drugs and alcohol.

Salters received credit for the 98 days he has spent in custody since his arrest.
