O'Hare moves up a notch on busiest airport report

BRU.S.SELS — An association of the world's airports says Beijing's hub now trails only Atlanta's as the world's busiest.

A report released Tuesday said Beijing and Chicago's O'Hare, which leapt to the third spot, both overtook London Heathrow, which slipped to fourth.

Airports Council International said passenger traffic rose 6.3 percent in 2010 and cargo traffic by 15.2 percent. Heathrow and Las Vegas were the only airports among the world's 30 largest where traffic decreased.

Traffic at Beijing Capital International Airport grew by 13 percent last year. Douglas International, in Charlotte, North Carolina, was the only large airport outside the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions where traffic grew more than 10 percent.
