Music events: Tossers headline Metro March 18

Still green

St. Patrick's Day might be over, but that's no reason to miss a rocking show from Chicago-based Celtic-punk heroes the Tossers. The band combines the acoustic sounds of traditional Irish music (banjo, fiddle and mandolin figure prominently in the songs) with the driving energy of classic punk.

8 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., Chicago. $15. Go to metrochicago.com.

Kid-rock phenom

Justin Roberts, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter whose witty, hook-filled songs for children have won him fans young and old across the country, will play two shows this weekend at the kid-friendly Old Town School of Folk Music. Roberts, who lives in the suburbs, always delivers an energetic show, one that usually gets moms and dads as pumped up as their children.

Noon and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at the Old Town School of Folk Music, 4544 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago. $15. Go to oldtownschool.org.

When all was Fab

Yesterday and Today is an interactive experience that pays tribute to the titanic musical legacy of that little band from Liverpool, the Beatles. The musicians don't impersonate the members of the Beatles in this show; instead, the focus is on the music, and fans determine the playlist.

7 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at the Paramount Arts Centre, 23 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora. Tickets cost $35. Call (630) 896-6666 or go to paramountarts.com.
