Highlights of the C2E2 weekend

Highlights of the C2E2 weekend

A full slate of activities is on tap for the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo this weekend. Here are a few highlights to keep in mind:

Panel discussions

Dozens of panels will be held throughout the weekend, covering everything from superheroes to the ins-and-outs of intellectual property laws. Here are a couple:

Comics: Fans of current mainstream superhero comics should make sure to attend the DC Nation panel at 6:30 p.m. Friday and the Marvel Cup o' Joe panel (with Marvel executive Joe Quesada) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday to find out the latest news.

Television: Actors and/or creators from a number of hit shows will sit down for panel discussions this weekend, including “The Walking Dead” (1 p.m. Saturday), “True Blood” (3:30 p.m. Saturday), “The Vampire Diaries” (5 p.m. Saturday) and “Chuck” (6:15 p.m. Saturday).

Celebrity Q-and-A's

One of the biggest draws of the weekend is likely to be the Q-and-A session with actor Chris Hemsworth, who plays “Thor” in the upcoming film. His session begins at 11:45 a.m. Saturday. (Get there early!) Actors Eliza Dushku and Tahmoh Penikett will discuss their work at 2:15 p.m. Saturday.

Autographs

Most celebrities attending the show will be signing autographs on Saturday and Sunday. Note that the bigger names require fans to purchase autograph tickets, which can cost $30 to $40. Hemsworth will be signing autographs only for those fans who purchased a special VIP package ($200). For times and locations, see c2e2.com.

For the little ones

Kids' Day is Sunday, March 20. Children 12 and younger will get in free that day, and there are loads of activities planned just for them. One highlight is the Tiny Titans Drawing Competition, featuring Streamwood cartoonist Art Baltazar. Baltazar and his writing partner, Franco Aureliani, who together create the award-wining children's comic “Tiny Titans,” will engage in a friendly drawing competition with each other and members of the audience. This session begins at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
