Blackhawks show kids how to play

WASHINGTON — Chicago Blackhawks players took time to teach young hockey players outside the White House, as part of a street hockey workout and clinic hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama.

The clinic followed a ceremony on Friday when President Barack Obama honored the team for its championship.

Children from Washington, D.C., sported either Blackhawks or Washington Capitals jerseys and competed in a street hockey scrimmage. Michelle Obama dropped the puck to start the game.

The youngsters also got to train with the pros. Blackhawks Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp taught the kids how to shoot a puck.

The hockey clinic was part of the First Lady’s “Let’s Move!” initiative to encourage children to lead active and healthy lives, and continues the president’s tradition of sports champions serving in the community as part of their visit to the White House.
