Repeat honor for Carmel's Hendrickson

Former Carmel standout guard Tiffany Hendrickson is now 2-for-2.

Hendrickson, a 2009 graduate of the Mundelein school and sophomore at Concordia University in Wisconsin, made the Northern Athletics Conference honorable mention team in women's basketball for the second year in a row.

She averaged 11.6 points per game and shot 90.6 percent from the free throw line. She was also the first sophomore team captain for the Falcons.

As a freshman, Hendrickson averaged 10.6 points, logging the most minutes of any Concordia starter.

Women's swimming

Towson freshman Melanie Rowland (Vernon Hills) competed in the Colonial Athletic Association women's swimming championships at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

Rowland swam on the conference record-breaking 400-yard freestyle relay team which clocked an NCAA Division 1 “B” qualifying time of 3:21.24.

She also swam lifetime bests in all her individual events: 500 free (4:55.03), 200 free (1:52.00) and 100 free (51.23).

Towson won the meet for the fourth straight time.

Wrestling

Josh Terrell (Round Lake) won his third consecutive Iowa Conference title with a 12-4 major decision to capture an extra point that gave his University of Dubuque team a Top-3 finish, its best finish in 40 years.

Ÿ Derrick Pousson (Round Lake) placed second at the NCWA regional championship. He advanced to the national tournament March 10-12 at Macon, Ga.

Men's basketball

Luther 6-foot-5 freshman guard John Androus (Lakes) tallied 14 points in a 68-61 victory over Concordia as the Norse advanced to the second round of the NCAA III tournament.

Concordia entered the game averaging 81.6 points a game but was held to its second-lowest point total of the season and 39 percent shooting by the Norse defense.

Softball leagues

The Gurnee Park District is offering adult men's and co-ed softball leagues. There are three men's leagues which play Monday, Tuesday or Friday night. The co-ed league plays Wednesday night. Girls basketball

The 2nd Annual Lake County Senior Shootout, a high school all-star basketball game, will be held Friday April 22 at College of Lake County in Grayslake.#8220;We are looking to double the amount of people we had attend last year,#8221; said coordinator Fred Fleming. #8220;Those that missed out last year definitely need to attend this year. We've added a coed 3-point shootout, putting the top shooting girls players vs. the boys. Also, we've added the most anticipated slam dunk competition, featuring some of the high-flying players in Lake County.#8221;Fleming says a few more sponsors are supporting the event this year.#8220;That allows us to do a lot more things,#8221; he said. #8220; I really want the community to come out and support our players. They've worked really hard this year and I think they deserve a nice send-off.#8221;The game is sponsored by the American Heart Association Fred Fleming Sports, Inc.Proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association.Players selected to participate in this year's game will be announced by mid March. Women's softball

Emory freshman pitcher Lena Brottman (Fremd) has made an immediate impact during the early stages of the season.

Brottman has crafted a 5-0 start on the mound in helping Emory to the program's second 10-0 start in school history. Brottman has tossed five complete games and posted an impressive 0.62 ERA, allowing just 3 earned runs in 34 innings. She has struck out 28 and issued just 4 walks.

Men's hockey

St. Viator junior Danny Lopez has committed to play Hockey for Harvard in the fall of 2013.

He currently plays for Team Illinois and is one of the leading scorers in the league. The team is ranked second in the nation and is shooting for a Tier 1 national championship.

Women's hockey

Rensselaer sophomore Audrey Stapleton is a member of the RPI women's ice hockey team.

A former standout with the Chicago Young Americans, the Barrington Hills native played in 19 ECAC Hockey contests.

She attended Barrington High School. and played two years of ice hockey

Rensselaer concluded its season with a pair of losses to top-seeded Cornell, which is also ranked No. 2 in the nation, in the first round of the ECAC Hockey playoffs. The team finished with a 10-18-7 overall record with an 8-12-2 conference mark.

Girls soccer

Rolling Meadows senior Maddie Conlin, a four-year starter and three-year captain for Mustangs coach Jeff Adkins, has been named to the IHSA Academic All-State team.

#8220;Maddie is going to be what we believe to be the only person ever at Rolling Meadows to earn 12 varsity letters,#8221; Adkins said.

Adkins said Conlin will attend Notre Dame and she was also accepted by Dartmouth.

#8220;I have been blessed with some really great kids, but Maddie shines even among a great group,#8221; Adkins said. #8220;She's also the conductor for the band and was on the Homecoming Court. I can't say enough about her.#8221;

Women's track and field

University of California Berkeley's Theresa Raub (Prospect) vaulted 13 feet, 2 inches to finish 5th in the pole vault at the PAC 10 Indoor Conference Championships in Seattle.

Raub is earning a Master's Degree in Education at Berkeley while competing in her final year of collegiate eligibility.
