Loyola hoops scouting report

Loyola (16-14) at Detroit (16-15)

When: 6 p.m. at Calihan Hall

Net: horizonleague.com

Radio: WAUR 930-AM, WNTD 950-AM, WWCA 1270-AM

The skinny: The Ramblers finished the regular season on a 3-2 run that included tight losses to Butler and St. Peter’s, but now the eighth-seeded Ramblers must figure out how to solve fifth-seeded Detroit in today’s Horizon League first-round game. The Titans, who swept the Ramblers by a combined 22 points during the season, feature two second-team all-league selections in freshman guard Ray McCallum (13.5 ppg) and rebounding champ Eli Holman (11.8 ppg, 9.6 rpg). “Our big thing is we’ve got to take care of the ball,” said Loyola coach Jim Whitesell. “Up there, they had 18 points off our turnovers. No. 2, we’ve got to rebound. Eli Holman is an NBA prospect inside.”

Advancement: The winner plays the winner of the ninth-seeded Youngstown State/fourth-seeded Valparaiso game on Friday at Milwaukee.
