Slaughter hosts Omaha in home opener

There will be a lot at stake Saturday night when the sizzling Omaha Beef (66-0 victors in preseason action last week) arrive at the Slaughter House — ahem, the Sears Centre — to take on the Chicago Slaughter in their home opener.

Although the Omaha entourage won’t include the team’s Prime Beef Dancers nor their mascot (an angus bull named Sir Loin), fans needn’t fret because the Slaughter is cooking up an enticing evening of its own, highlighted by an appearance by team owner Jim McMahon and a pregame salute to the military.

The Slaughter head into their Indoor Football League home opener (7:05 p.m. kick) sporting a 1-0 record and feeling pretty good about themselves courtesy of a 69-58 win on the road over the LaCrosse Spartans, a team that swept the Slaughter in a pair of games last season .

But it wasn’t all good news last week as starting quarterback C.J. Bacher had to leave the game with a separated shoulder. That sets up up an interesting dynamic this weekend with Slaughter backup quarterback Ben Sankey facing his former Omaha teammmates.
