Last week Tuesday and Wednesday will be freebies, village says

Drivers who slid through yellow and red lights last week in Wheeling won’t have to worry about paying a fine, said Wheeling Deputy Chief John Teevans.

“We’ve already sent a memo to Red Speed and told them not to issue any tickets for Tuesday and Wednesday,” Teevans said.

In April 2009, Wheeling installed two red-light cameras, one at Wheeling and Palatine roads and one at Milwaukee Avenue and Dundee Road.

Only 13 percent of those who get the $100 tickets live in Wheeling, officials say.

According to police, the majority, or 87 percent, of drivers who get the $100 tickets are drivers passing through town.

Red Speed Illinois is the company in charge of issuing the tickets in Wheeling.
