Grayslake man who died during blizzard had heart disease, coroner says

A Grayslake man found dead in his car during the blizzard likely died of heart-related problems, Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller said Thursday.

Gregory Myers, 48, had “significant heart disease,” Keller said following an autopsy. Additionally, tests didn’t reveal unusual carbon monoxide levels in his system.

Myers was discovered dead in his car Tuesday night by Lake County sheriff deputies during the height of this week’s blizzard.

Lake County Sheriff Deputy Chief Kevin Parker said authorities found the car in a snow bank on Route 45 near Grayslake. The engine was running when deputies found it.

At the time, Parker said it looked like Myers had succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning after his car became stuck on the highway.

However, Keller later said the man appeared to die of natural causes and not due to trying to stay warm in his vehicle during the winter storm.
