Jury recommends death for man who killed tourist

MIAMI — A jury has recommended death for a South Florida man convicted of fatally shooting an Illinois tourist who stopped to ask directions in Coconut Grove.

The Miami-Dade jury voted 8-4 for the death penalty on Thursday. That same panel found 26-year-old Brandon Antron Rolle guilty in October of first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm. Sentencing is ultimately up to a judge.

Authorities say Ronald Gentile had pulled over to ask for directions in 2006 when a man dressed in black approached the car, robbed and shot him.

Prosecutors pointed to Rolle's finger print being found in the victim's rental car as a sign of guilt. Rolle's girlfriend testified that Rolle used the victim's cell phone and that he had her pawn some of the stolen items.
