17,000 without power in the suburbs

More than 17,000 suburban homes and businesses were without power as of 8 a.m. Tuesday, ComEd spokesman Tony Hernandez said.

The city of Chicago is where the bulk of the 61,000 outages in the Chicago area are. Hernandez said roughly 43,600 of the outages are in Chicago, 5,700 are in the northern suburbs, 9,800 are in the southern suburbs, and 1,800 are in the western suburbs.

As many as 115,000 people in the area were without power Tuesday night, he said.

“With the high snow drifts and the high winds, to get to the outage has been a challenge for the crews,” he said. “We’re working as fast as we can to restore power.”

More than 300 crews are working Tuesday morning, he said. To report an outage, go to ComEd.com or call (800) EDISON-1.
