If yes, please explain: NoCandidate's Key Issues Key Issue 1 Fiscal Responsibility. Property Taxes continue to creep up. I believe all expenses at the Library need to be looked at to ensure that the taxpayer is getting the most for his/her tax dollar.Key Issue 2 Developing More Programs for the AHML with Local School Districts on NCLB and the new State Core Standards and Testing Initiatives Key Issue 3 Ensuring our Library meets the needs of our residents during these tough economic times.Questions Answers Why are you running for this office, whether for re-election or election the first time? Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I am running because I feel I can contribute a lot to our community be being a Library Board trustee. My unique experience as an educator with a business background will add a new perspective to the Board. I have also had experience working on my property association Board. I have developed budgets and managed contractors and resident concerns. I believe I am seasoned enough and ready to contribute more to my community. If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are a non-incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make. Please see my other answers as those outline the contributions I would make and my major ideas.Do you have a library card? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?Yes. To be honest, I use the Mount Prospect Library quite a bit because they have a better History collection and a Great Courses (College Level Video Courses) section. AHML's video rental policy is also quite harsh with a $1 a day fine with only one week rentals on non-fiction videos. As a Board member I would seek to change this policy. But I do use the AHML library card at least once a month on average.Space is usually an issue at libraries. If that's the case at your library, would your solution be to expand the physical plant or make room by doing away with parts of the collection that technology has made less critical? Explain.I do not think space is an issue at the Library. I think we have some shelves that need to be filled actually (especially the History section).Perhaps the Library should consider reducing its video section over time as more content becomes available over the Internet and in on-demand formats. What impact have economic and technological changes had on libraries? How does a library remain relevant? How should its role in the community change?Libraries should consider approaching local school districts about finding ways to assist achieving the No Child Left Behind standards and the upcoming changes to the State Tests with the implementation of the Common Core Standards. The Library should cooperate with school district officials to come up with programs that assist our students meet these standards and meet or exceed expectations.
