The skinny: In losing 13 of their last 14 games, the Flames have endured their share of heartbreaking defeats. Howard Moore’s crew has three 2-point losses during that stretch, including the 71-69 game Dec. 30 at Youngstown State. If UIC can replicate Thursday’s first-half effort against Cleveland State, then it’ll end its Horizon League dry spell. It wouldn’t hurt if senior forward Brad Birton brings everything to the floor again. He posted a career-best 14 points with 10 rebounds against the Vikings.
