Bears-Packers moment

Packers 12, Bears 6 (OT)

Chester Marcol.

If you were a Bears fan in 1980, you'll never forget the name. That's because the man coach Abe Gibron dubbed the “Polish Prince” provided one of the unforgettable moments in the longtime rivalry between the Bears and the Packers.

The scene was the season opener at Lambeau Field, and Marcol was lined up to attempt a 35-yard field goal. But Bears lineman Alan Page blocked the kick with his face mask and madness ensued. The ball bounced right back to the bespectacled Marcol, who followed a blocker around the left end and into the end zone to cap what Packers coach Bart Starr called, “the most dramatic win I've ever been a part of.”

Bears fans were calling it something completely different.
