Five seek Geneva school board seats

The election for Geneva school board will be a contested one, as five people filed Monday morning for three seats.

Those seeking election to the four-year posts are incumbents Mary Stith, Leslie Juby and Kelly Nowak. They are joined by Robert Cabeen and George Jackowiec. Stith is the president of the school board. Juby ran in November as a Democratic candidate for the 25th Illinois Senate seat.

City council

Three people who had previously indicated they would run for 1st Ward alderman filed their election petitions Monday.

Esther Barclay, who lives on James Street, filed, as did incumbent Alderman Charles N. Brown of West Lane and Zachary J. Ploppert of North Pine Street.

In the 2nd Ward, incumbent Robert Piper submitted his petitions for re-election. Piper lives on Miller Road.

For the 3rd Ward, former school board president Dean J. Kilburg filed for election, as did Becky Hruby. Kilburg lives on East Side Drive, and Hruby lives on Manchester Course. The seat is presently held by Ray Pawlak, who is not running again.

Fourth Ward Alderman Dorothy Flanagan filed her petitions, as did 5th Ward Alderman Craig Maladra. Flanagan lives on Brookfield Lane, and Maladra lives on Allen Drive.

Barclay is president of the Geneva library board.

Geneva Park Board President Susan Vanderveen, of South Lincoln Avenue, filed her petitions Monday morning. There is one 6-year term available.
