Herlihy won't seek North Aurora post again

North Aurora Trustee Mike Herlihy has decided not to run for re-election.

His term expires at the end of April.

Herlihy has been a trustee for 10 years, and before that served on the zoning board and plan commission.

“It is time for a break,” he said.

He cites as achievements during his tenure building the sales tax base, improving the water system and building a new police station.

Herlihy's decision is in line with his belief in self-imposed term limits, and that there are other qualified people who will bring new ideas and independent thinking to the board.

He has served on the board since 2001. He lost a bid for re-election in April 2005, coming in fourth in a five-person race for three seats. But he was then appointed later that month to fill the remainder of the term left vacant by Trustee John Hansen, who was elected village president.

There will be three trustee positions available on the 2011 ballot. Trustee Bob Strusz has indicated he is running again. Trustee Mark Guethle has not returned a message seeking comment.
