Aurora East student may have had gun, police say

Aurora police placed East Aurora High School on a “soft lockdown” Monday after a student reported seeing a classmate in possession of a handgun, according to police.

However, police said the lockdown seemed to be a false alarm and that no arrests were mode or guns were found.

School officials contacted the Aurora Police Department Monday after a student spotted a 17-year old classmate with what was thought to be a gun at approximately 2:43 p.m., according to police.

Police officers sealed off the campus and began a search of the school, at 779 Fifth Ave., but were unable to find a weapon during a two-hour lockdown.

The student who was reportedly seen with the gun was taken into custody and was interviewed by detectives Monday night, according to police.

The student was later released without charges, police officials said.

The incident remains under investigation, officials said.
