Loyola routs Alabama State 74-46

Ben Averkamp had 13 points and seven rebounds Monday night to help Loyola of Chicago to an easy 74-46 victory over Alabama State.

Geoff McCammon also had 13 points for the Ramblers (6-0), while Walt Gibler scored 12 and Terrance Hill 11. Andy Polka equaled Averkamp's seven rebounds for Loyola, which is off to its best start in 31 years.

The Ramblers led 10-2 just 5 minutes into the game and raced to a 41-19 halftime lead, shooting 56 percent from the field in the first half and 47 percent on the night.

Jeff Middlebrooks was the only Alabama State player in double figures with 13 points. The Hornets (1-4) shot just 34 percent from the field in the game.
