Chicago cop shot in leg

A Chicago police officer is recovering from his injuries after being shot in the leg.

Police say the 37-year-old officer is expected to make a full recovery.

The Chicago Tribune reports that police say the shooting happened at about 5:30 on Sunday afternoon. Police say officers pulled over a vehicle on the city's West Side. As they approached the vehicle, the driver tried to run over one of the officers.

Officers monitoring the stop on the radio followed the fleeing vehicle and when it stopped, shots were fired when the officers tried to pull the occupants out. WLS-TV reports that the bullet that struck the officer was fired by another officer, but police declined to comment.

The occupants of the vehicle were arrested.
