Jennifer Bishop Jenkins, a Northfield Democrat, has mounted a spirited challenge to three-term incumbent Gregg Goslin, a Glenview Republican, and has good ideas, showing special strength in areas of justice and law enforcement.
While she obviously has spent time learning about county government, this is her first run for elective office. Goslin, on the other hand, despite working on a board dominated by Democrats, has a record of accomplishment, including battling to reduce the sales tax and reform Cook County's public health system.
His knowledge of how the system works showed when he successfully parried a couple of Jenkins' criticisms during candidate interviews, showing them to be unfounded. Goslin is endorsed.
