Easy does it on move of La Fox home

Dan and Tina Larsen are the new owners of an 1849 home they bought for a dollar. They're hoping to turn it into a guesthouse. But first, it had to be moved to the back end of their lot on La Fox Road.

La Fox Road from Keslinger Road to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks was closed for a short time Tuesday morning to accommodate the move, estimated about 500 yards.

The original part of the frame home dates to 1849, and was owned by La Fox settler Byron Kendall.

The home was originally where the La Fox train station is located, and was first moved about 2½ years ago to make way for the station. Lyle Hyatt and Co. in Sandwich has moved the house both times.

The Larsens bought the house about five months ago from North First I LLC, a real estate development firm.

The land around the station was supposed to have a 1,200-home Settlements of La Fox subdivision built on it in the mid-2000s, but the real estate crash has brought those plans to a halt.
