Geneva RR crossing closed

The Western Avenue railroad crossing in Geneva is closed for repairs.

The city of Geneva said in a news release that the crossing is expected to be reopened by Oct. 20 at the latest.

The panels in the crossing have a dip that “creates a very uneven surface for vehicles. It was initially described as an “emergency repair, but a Union Pacific spokesman later said that just means the work has been moved up on the schedule.

The crossing will be repaired and resurfaced with asphalt. Motorists can cross the rail line using the overpass on Randall Road or the underpass on Route 31.

The repairs are being made by the Union Pacific Railroad.
