Turelli has right ideas on schools

Lauren Turelli, the candidate for state representative in the 58th District, has both the experience and the right ideas that can improve our state's education standards.

As a mother of three and a former teacher, Lauren understands that state control adds bureaucracy that hinders students and their parents' ability to work in their children's best interests. Most importantly, she is willing to work with legislators from across the aisle to institute school choice for our students.

Lauren Turelli supports Sen. James Meeks' legislation that would offer underperforming students the opportunity to move from failing public schools.

School choice programs not only give children better opportunities at other institutions, they promote competition among public schools to improve the quality of other students' educations as well.

New York, Washington, D.C., Charlotte, and Milwaukee have all seen enormous improvements both from their lowest-achieving students and their worst schools. Similar success can be enjoyed in Chicago, and without incurring any additional taxes.

No one can have faith in candidates who blindly support tighter government regulation at the expense of allowing citizens to make their own sensible choices.

Instead of empowering families by giving them more control over their children's education, Karen May and her allies have supported removing local funding for our schools and allowing Springfield to redistribute the tax revenue.

Our state should be offering students more academic opportunities, rather than fewer.

Lauren Turelli has secured my support because of her acknowledgment of that fact.
