Guillen's feeling better about future with White Sox

His contract remains the same, but manager Ozzie Guillen was feeling much better about his future with the White Sox on Monday following separate meetings with chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and general manager Kenny Williams.

Signed through next season with a club option for 2012, Guillen sure sounded like he wanted a contract extension last week when the Sox were on the West Coast.

But Guillen said that wasn't true. Rather, he was seeking assurance that he's not going to be forced out at the end of next season.

"I never, never will get out of my contract unless they don't want me," Guillen said before the White Sox lost to the Red Sox 6-1 at U.S. Cellular Field. "I never said I want an extension. No. The contract was not the issue. The issue was I have family and I want to know exactly what was my stance.

"I was thinking about having some business here in Chicago and I don't want to lose money on that business. That exactly it. I'm very glad with what I hear. I'm very excited with what I hear, and I never deny I want to be a White Sox for the rest of my life."

Williams said his meeting with Guillen was brief and to the point.

"I asked him directly, did he want to be here?" Williams said. "Did he want to be the manager of the Chicago White Sox? He said, 'Absolutely. That's all I've ever wanted.' He said he never asked for an extension. The timing of something wasn't commensurate with if he were to go down that road.

"He did want to know what his status was and I told him directly: 'I hope I never have another manager, at least while I'm sitting in this chair, I hope I never have another manager of the Chicago White Sox other than him.'"

The Marlins are rumored to be interested in Guillen's services, but he is not going to be managing Florida in 2011.

"I would tell them that Ozzie is not interested," Williams said. "He wants to be the manager of the Chicago White Sox. That's what he communicated to me. He did not want to go anywhere else. He wanted to be the manager here. I would deny permission."

Injury update: Gavin Floyd left his Sept. 20 start at Oakland in the first inning after throwing just 7 pitches.

Floyd has inflammation in his throwing (right) shoulder and is done for the season.

"It's nothing like surgery or anything like that," Floyd said. "I just have to be even more adamant about my shoulder work."

Bobby Jenks (irritated ulnar nerve) has not pitched since Sept. 4 and he's also likely through for the year.

"If we were in a better situation I would want to get back as soon as possible," Jenks said. "But at this point I just want to be able to get off the mound a few times and go into the off-season knowing that I'm healthy."

Gordon Beckham said his sore right hand is feeling better and he'd like to play before the season ends.

"I swung today and it felt the best it's felt," said Beckham, who hasn't played since Sept. 15.
