Track worker charged with assault on animal

A Cook County judge set bond at $25,000 Friday for a 29-year-old Arlington Park worker accused of having sexual contact with an animal.

Arlington Heights resident Esbin Cal-Orozco, 29, was charged with a class 4 felony, which carries a possible sentence of one to three years in prison. Probation is also available.

On Monday, racetrack security personnel noticed a 4-year-old filly tied in her stall in an unusual manner, said Arlington Heights Police Sgt. Mike Hernandez.

The security guards noticed buckets behind the horse, and a bicycle near the stall, Hernandez said. As they continued their rounds, they noticed the bicycle missing. Later that night, security personnel noticed Cal-Orozco riding the bike, Hernandez said.

Questioned by Arlington Heights detectives, the defendant admitted having contact with the horse, Hernandez said. The defendant, whose address is listed in the 2200 block of W. Euclid Ave., has no criminal background, authorities said.
