Illinois pastor sets world free-throw mark

HARTFORD -- Adult-league basketball teams looking for someone gifted at sinking free throws might want to give southwestern Illinois pastor Perry Dissmore a call.

The senior pastor of the Hartford Assembly of God Church broke his own world mark on national television Tuesday, dumping in 1,968 free throws in an hour on "Live with Regis and Kelly."

That's 42 more than his old record, which he set in Florida in October 2009.

The new record amounts to an average of roughly 33 free throws a minute, or about one every other second.

Thirty-nine-year-old Dissmore appeared on the show during its Guinness World Record-Breaker Week.

Dissmore isn't a novice at hooping it up. He played at what now is North Central University in Minneapolis, where he was an All-American.

He has been the Hartford pastor since April.
