Mold found in Waubonsie Valley High auditorium

Indian Prairie Unit District 204 officials said mold discovered Friday in Waubonsie Valley High School's auditorium will not affect the start of school on Aug. 24.

Principal Kristine Marchiando sent an e-mail to parents Tuesday indicating several patches of mold were discovered in the auditorium carpet at the Aurora school.

"(Environmental consultant) Environ developed a plan for removing the carpet, which will happen before school starts next week," Marchiando wrote. "Installation of the new carpet should be completed within three to four weeks."

Environ also is investigating the cause of the mold growth, but recent high heat and humidity is believed to be responsible for the condensation that formed on the ground. All ground floor rooms also are being checked.

"We want to assure you that we are committed to providing clean environmental conditions in our school and will provide you with updates on this project," Marchiando wrote.
