Bulls add another guard in Keith Bogans

The Bulls decided not to wait any longer to add another wing player and agreed to terms Friday with well-traveled shooting guard Keith Bogans.

The 6-foot-5 Bogans played for five different teams during his first seven years in the league. He's a good defender and decent scorer, with his best season coming for Orlando in 2007-08, when he played in all 82 games and averaged 8.7 points. Bogans, 30, spent last season in San Antonio.

Shooting accuracy has held him back as much as anything. Bogans owns a career field-goal percentage of .394 and 3-point percentage of .351.

His deal is for two years at roughly $2.5 million, with only the first season guaranteed, according to a league source. The Bulls might have been prompted to make a decision when one of their other targets, Roger Mason, signed with New York.

The Bulls are still waiting to see if Portland is serious about trading Spanish shooting guard Rudy Fernandez, but obviously that hasn't materialized. Signing Bogans gives the Bulls 12 players under contract and probably means they are no longer entertaining thoughts of adding Tracy McGrady.

Coach Tom Thibodeau made an appearance Friday on WMVP's Waddle and Silvy Show," and talked about the status of the coaching staff.

Thibodeau is looking for a former NBA player to fill a spot on the bench after deciding not to retain Pete Myers, who will be offered another job in the organization.

Thibodeau confirmed that former Knicks power forward Larry Johnson was interested in the job, which was first reported in the Daily Herald blog, but said Johnson is no longer a possibility. Former Bucks and Suns head coach Terry Porter is another candidate.

"I came in thinking I would bring in an entirely new staff," Thibodeau said. "John (Paxson) and Gar (Forman) asked me to take a look at Pete, who's an excellent coach. After studying it more, I came back to what I originally thought - that it would be best to start fresh with a new staff."
