Cougars sting Bees, win fourth straight

Jason Christian had 4 hits and 4 RBI, Jonathan Joseph delivered 6 solid innings for his first Cougars victory and Bo Schultz and Kenny Smalley combined for scoreless relief Sunday afternoon as Kane County rolled past the Burlington Bees 13-3 in front of 6,640 at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva.

The Cougars have won four straight games and nine straight at home; they also are 8-0 against the Bees this season.

Christian had a 2-run double during the Cougars' 4-run first inning and homered in the third to make it 5-2. The Cougars also scored once in the fifth, three times in the sixth and four times in the seventh in a 16-hit attack. Mike Gilmartin, Conner Crumbliss, Rashun Dixon, Chris Affinito and Juan Nunez each had 2 hits.

Joseph (1-3) gave up 3 runs on 7 hits over 6 innings with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts.

Goldeyes 10, Fielders 6: The Lake County Fielders dropped the finale of a four-game series with the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Lindenhurst Health and Fitness Family Day at Fielders Stadium in Zion.

The Goldeyes scored 3 runs in the first and 7 in the third.

Brian McFall hit a 2-run homer in the sixth inning for the Fielders, who scored 3 runs more in the seventh.

Reliever Alex Lewis gave the Fielders a chance to come back by providing 42/3 innings of scoreless relief, but they could only score one more run in the bottom of the ninth.

RedHawks 5, Flyers 1: The Schaumburg Flyers managed only 3 hits against Fargo-Moorhead starter Jake Laber as the RedHawks claimed the decisive contest of a three-game series at Alexian Field. Schaumburg (24-41) next visits the Rockford RiverHawks for 7 p.m. games Monday through Thursday.

Bandits 3, Pride 0: The Chicago Bandits scored in the third inning as Stacy May's single drove in Emily Friedman. With Jennie Finch pitching, that turned out to be enough to win.

The Bandits prevailed over the USSSA Florida Pride in Orlando, moving them 21/2 games ahead of the Akron Racers, who were scheduled to play a doubleheader later Sunday.

Angela Findlay doubled home Finch in the fourth inning, and Emily Friedman hit a solo homer in the sixth.
