Vernon Hills library now open for business

Three years after Cook Memorial Public Library District officials proposed building a new library in Vernon Hills, the facility is open for business.

The 20,000-square-foot facility on Aspen Drive was unveiled July 10, after much anticipation.

It was constructed at the same time crews renovated and expanded the historic main library in downtown Libertyville. That project should be ready this fall.

Here's a look at the new Aspen Drive Library, by the numbers.

$7 million: The project's estimated cost

43,000: Estimated books in the collection as of opening day

8,500: Estimated DVDs in the collection, as of opening day

180: In gallons, the size of the building's fish tank

22: Internet-accessible public computers

1: Meeting rooms (but it can be divided into two)
