Outdoor concert series fills Mundelein with music

With concert-ticket prices skyrocketing with no apparent end in sight, it can be tough for music lovers to afford a lot of shows.

But it's easy if you live in the Mundelein area and have an eclectic musical palette - or at least are interested in sampling different musical styles.

That's because Mundelein's annual outdoor concert series is under way in the village. As always, the shows are free.

Four concerts remain on the schedule, two in July and two in August. All are on Sundays.

All of the shows run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Kracklauer Park, which is on Seymour Avenue at Division Street.

The next show is Sunday, July 18. A rock band called the Neverly Brothers will perform. For more information about the band, visit theneverlybrothers.com.

Next up, on Sunday, July 25, is a Woodstock-era revival called 1969.

Then, on Aug. 1, the Lake Shore Symphony Orchestra will perform. The orchestra, which is based at the Northside College Preparatory High School in Chicago, performs four major concerts a year but also splits into ensembles to perform in Chicago and the suburbs.

For more about the orchestra, visit lsso.org.

Finally, a rock band called One Foot on the Groove will perform Aug. 8. It's played at Navy Pier, the Arlington Park Racetrack and at other high-profile venues.

Visit onefootinthegroove.org for more information about the band.

The concert series is sponsored by the village, the Mundelein Park and Recreation District and the Mundelein Community Days Commission. It launched in 1998 with a single show but expanded to three the next year.

Fans should bring their own chairs or blankets for seating, as well as their own food and drinks.
