18-year-old falls from power line tower

SPRINGFIELD -- An 18-year-old from Champaign is hospitalized in Springfield after being shocked and falling from a power line tower in the Champaign County town of Bondville.

Memorial Medical Center officials said Austin Rosa was listed in critical condition Wednesday evening. He was transferred there from Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where he was taken Tuesday night after falling from the tower.

Lt. Allen Jones of the Champaign County Sheriff's department says Rosa fell about 30 to 40 feet from an Ameren Illinois-owned transmission line steel support tower on Illinois Route 10.

Jones says Rosa and 17-year-old Nicole Davis of Bondville had been climbing together on the tower when Rosa was shocked by an arc from the power line.
