Looks like it's not a Dunn deal

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Three weeks ago, general manager Kenny Williams was fed up with the White Sox' ragged play and he vowed to make big roster changes.

That threat vanished during an 11-game winning streak, and the Washington Post reported Tuesday the Sox had a scout in Atlanta watching Adam Dunn and the Nationals play the Braves.

Dunn, a 30-year-old left-handed hitting first baseman, was 0-for-5 with 3 strikeouts. But the 6-foot-6, 287-pounder ranks among National League leaders with 17 home runs and also has 47 RBI.

With Mark Kotsay continuing to struggle for the Sox, a possible trade for Dunn has been making the rounds since Williams went from being a seller to potential buyer.

But Dunn, who is a free agent at the end of the season, recently told the Post he has no interest in being a designated hitter, his likely role with the White Sox if a trade did go down.

"One hundred percent," Dunn said. "There's no doubt about that. I think everyone pretty much knows that's something I don't want to do at this point in time of my career. In four, five years down the road, maybe. As of right now, no."

So that's one potential snag in a potential trade. There is another one as well - one source said the Nationals would want Gordon Beckham for Dunn.

Dinner leftovers: Sox manager Ozzie Guillen hasn't talked to Carlos Zambrano since having dinner with the Cubs pitcher on Friday, the same day he was suspended after throwing a temper tantrum at U.S. Cellular Field.

Guillen's wife, Ibis, did talk to Zambrano on Tuesday, and she is also the one that set up Friday's dinner.

Zambrano makes many charitable donations in Venezuela and Ibis Guillen is helping him set up a foundation.

"A lot of people, I'm not going to say the Cubs, a lot of people made it out like we went to dinner to talk about it," Guillen said. "No, we went to dinner because of my wife's business. We didn't go to dinner for me to talk to him about what happened. The last thing we talked about is what he did. We talked about life, about being in Venezuela, we talked about a project my wife has for him back home. Obviously when that thing happens, it was that day we had dinner."

Zambrano is reportedly headed for anger management counseling, which is what Guillen went through in 2006.

"For me, that didn't work out (bleep)," Guillen said. "I'm the same. But in the meanwhile, it helped. My problem was that the guy listened to me; I didn't listen to him. I think Carlos is doing the right thing. I think the Cubs are doing the right thing. But enough is enough. Carlos has already talked with the Cubs. Everything is good with the Cubs, I don't say great, but it's better. Everything is on the table."

Around the horn: Closer Bobby Jenks is still away from the White Sox, but he is expected to rejoin the team by Friday, when they open a three-game series in Texas ... Class AAA Charlotte's Brent Morel hit 2 home runs Tuesday. The third baseman also has 9 hits in his last 19 at-bats, hiking his average to .260 ... The Sox' July 24 game Oakland has been picked up by FOX and will now start at 3:10 p.m. (Chicago time).
