Flyers fall to T-Bones

The Kansas City T-Bones (22-16) defeated the Schaumburg Flyers (14-23) 3-2 late Monday night at Alexian Field on the strength of a complete game by Northern League ERA leader Andrew Cruse.

Cruse (5-2) allowed just 2 runs on nine hits while striking out five. Flyers starter Brett Harker (1-5) also put in a solid effort, allowing just three runs on 10 hits, He struck out four and walked one.

Kansas City struck first in the fourth with two runs on a Jim Fasano fly ball to left and a Dwayne White double that scored Rico Washington.

The Flyers struck back with a run in the fifth to cut the T-Bones advantage to one. After Terry Mermer flied out to center, Andre Marshall ripped a base hit up the middle and stole second. With two outs, Travis Brown laced the Cruse offering into right, scoring Marshall to put the Flyers on the board.

The T-Bones got one more in the sixth, and the Flyers cut the Kansas City lead to 3-2 but were shut down in the ninth.
