Report: Sox reach terms with No. 1 draft pick Sale

The White Sox and first-round draft pick Chris Sale have agreed to terms, according to a report by Baseball America.

Sale, a left-handed pitcher from Florida Gulf Coast University, reportedly agreed to a $1.65 million signing bonus. The 21-year-old Lakeland, Fla., native was 11-0 with a 2.01 ERA during his junior season at FGCU.

Sale is expected to take a physical Monday and the Sox will officially announce his signing on Tuesday.

Baseball America speculated Sale accepted a lesser signing bonus because he has a chance to join the White Sox' bullpen later in the season.

In Matt Thornton, the Sox have one of the top left-handed relievers in the game. But their other lefty, Randy Williams, is 0-1 with a 4.88 ERA and he has walked 22 in 24 innings.

Last week, the White Sox agreed to terms with second-round pick Jacob Petricka, a right-handed pitcher from Indiana State University. They also signed both of their third-round picks - right-handed pitchers Addison Reed from San Diego State and Thomas Royse of the University of Louisville.
