Naperville Central's Conlon just misses perfect game

Naperville Central 2, Wheaton North 0: Shane Conlon came within two outs of a perfect game before Mike Coduto's bloop double broke it up. Conlon (6-0) retired the next two batters to complete the game, striking out 10 in leading the Redhawks (23-4, 14-1) to the DuPage Valley Conference three-game sweep of Wheaton North (20-7, 10-5). Naperville Central scored both runs in the first inning on doubles by Conlon and Bobby Czarnowski and a single by Matt Cmiel.

Naperville North 19, Glenbard East 0: The Huskies (22-5, 12-3) scored 18 runs in the first two innings while rolling to the DuPage Valley Conference win. Winning pitcher Charlie White (4-1), who allowed 2 hits in 3 innings, blasted a 2-run homer.

West Chicago 3, WW South 2: Al Robbins (1-2) was the complete-game winning pitcher for the Wildcats (11-14, 4-11) in the DuPage Valley Conference win. Tommy Krone went 2-for-3 and Blair Skarin drove in a run. Neal Johnston and Parker Ryndak had 2 hits apiece for WW South (13-14, 6-9).

Waubonsie Valley 8-9, Bartlett 2-2: The Warriors (17-8, 13-4) swept in the Upstate Eight Conference as Sean Smith (6-2), who drove in 2 runs in the opener, won Game 2 behind 5 shutout innings with 9 strikeouts and no walks. Mike Murphy (4-2) struck out seven and walked none in Game 1. Sam Carius homered in the second game.

Downers South 6-7, Addison Trail 1-1: Nick Burdi (6-0) and Jake Rone (9-0) stayed unbeaten as the Mustangs (24-5, 13-1 West Suburban Gold) swept. Burdi struck out 14 and walked one while Rone fired a 2-hitter. Jake Wolf went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI in both games.

Wheaton Academy 7, Lisle 3: The Warriors (17-11) exploded for 5 runs in the sixth inning of their nonconference win as Ryan Dzingel went 2-for-3 with 2 runs. Nate Jones pitched 6 innings for the win. Losing pitcher Jon Surber (5-1) allowed 1 earned run in 4 innings. Will DeCraene went 2-for-4 for the Lions (18-9).

York 14-1, Glenbard West 4-8: Ray Yong went 2-for-2 with a homer and 4 RBI in the opener for the Dukes (15-12, 8-6 West Suburban Silver), and Steve Adkins (5-3) notched the win. Scott Lembitz was the winning pitcher in Game 2 for Glenbard West (11-14, 6-8).

Hinsdale Central 10-12, Proviso West 0-0: The Red Devils (12-12, 8-6) swept in the West Suburban Silver with a pair of five-inning wins. Matt Anderson went 4-for-6 with a homer and 5 RBI on the day. Will Pahos (5-1) and Drew Kornak (2-3) were the winning pitchers.

Morton 5-2, Willowbrook 2-1: The Warriors (18-10, 9-5) were swept in the West Suburban Gold. Brett Buchanan went 3-for-3 and Brian Cree went 2-for-3 in the opener. Danny Fahlgren had a double and an RBI in the second game.

Riverside-Brookfield 11-13, Fenton 1-5: The Bison (8-16, 4-7) were swept in the Metro Suburban Conference despite Danny Stevens going 4-for-5 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and an RBI. Michael Mach drove in 2 runs in Game 2 for Fenton.
