Fire displaces Naperville families

Naperville fire officials are searching for the cause of a fire Sunday afternoon in a Naperville apartment complex that caused $30,000 damage and displaced two families.

Neighbors called firefighters to 764 Inland Circle about 4:50 p.m. after smoke and fire were seen coming out of a third-floor apartment in the 12-unit building.

Firefighters forced open the apartment door and extinguished the fire in the kitchen within five minutes, according to Battalion Chief Mike Veseline. No one was at home at the time, he added, and no injuries were reported.

The cause is under investigation. Veseline said the occupants of the apartment and the one below were displaced for the night because of water damage and were housed in a hotel as part of their victim's assistance program.
