Lake County Board candidate facing charges

A Lake County Board candidate on Friday called his arrest earlier this month "nonsense."

David M. Serdar, a Libertyville resident who is the Green Party candidate for the District 15 seat, was arrested March 8 and charged under local ordinance with disorderly conduct.

He declined to say whether the arrest would affect his campaign.

Serdar, 54, of the 200 block of West Park Avenue, was arrested at his home following a confrontation with an ex-girlfriend outside a business on the 100 block of West Park Avenue in Libertyville, police said.

During the encounter, Serdar "made some veiled threats" against the woman, Libertyville Deputy Police Chief Bob Koval said. Serdar did not make any direct threats, Koval said.

Serdar was released on a $75 recognizance bond. He is scheduled to appear in the Mundelein branch of Lake County circuit court on April 14.

Although running under the Green banner, Serdar is not a member of the Illinois Green Party or a recognized party candidate, party spokesman Patrick Kelly said. Even so, the Green Party has no plans to ask Serdar to withdraw from the race.

"He hasn't been to court, and he hasn't been convicted," Kelly said.

Serdar is one of three candidates for the District 15 seat. Incumbent Republican Carol Calabresa and Democrat Delfino "Del" Parra also are running.
