GOP: Still no governor candidate
Nearly a week has now passed with no clear winner in the Republican primary for Illinois governor.
Neither state Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington nor state Sen. Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale had declared victory or conceded as of Monday night with both staring at a 400-plus vote margin separating the two.
"We are still watching and waiting," says Wes Bleed, campaign spokesman for Dillard.
The two candidates have remained cordial about the stalemate, but each believes he will win in the end. Though Brady has the edge, Dillard says there are thousands of provisional and absentee ballots left to be counted from across the state and he wants to see those results. The final vote tallies will be certified by local election officials by Feb. 23.
The general election is Nov. 2.
