Man sentenced for shooting at Metra engineer
A man convicted of shooting at a Metra commuter train in an effort to kill the female engineer has been sentenced to more than 11 years in prison.
Telly Virgin faced the possibility of more than 20 years in prison. However, federal prosecutors said the 35-year-old cooperated with prosecutors in their case against Theodore Howard of Chicago.
Virgin testified last fall he was hired by Howard to kill his ex-wife, a Metra engineer.
On June 6, 2007, Virgin stood on the platform of a Metra station and shot at the passing train. He didn't hit anyone, though an engineer was hurt when he saw the shooter and dived to the floor.
Virgin said he tried to avoid hitting anyone while doing what he had to do to get cash and crack cocaine from Howard.
A jury found Howard guilty in September. He hasn't been sentenced.
