Jamison: Arenas' situation eye-opener

Obviously, the Wizards had plenty on their minds Friday besides playing the Bulls. Back in Washington, suspended teammate Gilbert Arenas pleaded guilty to a felony charge of possessing a gun without a license.

At the morning shootaround, Wizards forward Antawn Jamison talked about his missing teammate, who might be facing jail time and cancellation of his contract.

"The Michael Vick situation should've opened up a lot of eyes," Jamison said in The Washington Post. "This is another situation that should let you know you have to do things a certain way. You're under a microscope. You're a role model. People, kids look up to you.

"I hope it opens up a lot of people's eyes, let them realize you have to cherish the moments. You have to make smart decisions. These couple of incidents in the last couple of years have shown, if you don't make the right decision, you can be in deep trouble."

Arenas got in trouble for storing several unloaded guns in his locker at the Verizon Center.

Derrick won't dunk: Derrick Rose's summer travel partner, Orlando center Dwight Howard, suggested recently that Rose may be a candidate for the slam-dunk contest on all-star weekend.

Rose is planning to defend his title in the skills challenge, but has no interest in dunking.

"He's lying," Rose said with a laugh. "I'm not getting in the slam-dunk. Never, ever. Never. I can jump high, but I'm not creative."

How about a contest in which Howard stands under the basket and several choice guards try to get past him for a layup?

"I probably couldn't do it," Rose said. "He's huge."

Second look counts: The Bulls caught a replay break late in the first overtime. Trailing by 2, Derrick Rose drove toward the basket and had the ball deflected away by Antawn Jamison. It rolled out of bounds and two officials signaled Washington ball with 30.2 seconds left.

But referee Leroy Richardson stepped in and decided to look at the replay. The end zone shot showed it hitting Brendan Haywood's leg and bypassing Noah. So the call was reversed and the Bulls eventually tied the score on John Salmons' driving bank shot.

Bull horns: Tyrus Thomas spent 131/2 minutes on the court in the first half Friday and didn't collect his first entry on the stat sheet until the final three seconds when he blocked a shot. Thomas collected 4 points, 4 rebounds and another block in the second half. ... The Bulls are 3-0 in overtime this season, with all three games played at home.
