FBI seeks potential victims of former Aurora school official accused of sex crimes
The FBI is joining the Aurora Police Department’s search for potential victims of a former school leader accused of sexually abusing minors.
Michael Herbert, a onetime Aurora Christian Schools board member, was arrested in May on charges of criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor, possession of child sexual abuse material and involuntary sexual servitude.
FBI officials said Monday that the agency believes Herbert primarily targeted boys between 2013 to 2022. Potential victims or anyone else with information are asked to visit fbi.gov/LetYourVoiceBeHeard.
Identities of victims will be kept confidential, the FBI said.
According to Aurora police, Herbert had been under investigation since December 2025 when a man in his 20s reported that he had been groomed and sexually abused in his early teens.
The man told police Herbert provided “gifts, money and other incentives as part of the ongoing manipulation and abuse,” authorities said.
Kane County prosecutors said last month that the alleged abuse happened in 2015, when the boy was 13, and ended in 2019, when the boy turned 18.
Aurora Christian Schools’ online records showed Herbert served as vice chairman and secretary of the school board. His wife taught at the Aurora campus.
Herbert is being held in the Kane County jail while he awaits trial. His next court date is July 22.
