Beach Park man attacked in his home now facing firearm, drug charges

A Beach Park man who was beaten with his own gun during a home invasion Jan. 8 now faces firearm and drug charges.

Alan C. Solganick, 67, of the 38200 block of North Sheridan Road was charged Wednesday with unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felon offender, armed violence, and manufacturing/delivery of more than 400 grams of cocaine, all felonies.

Solganick also is charged with possession of more than 400 grams of cocaine and being a felon in possession of a firearm, both felonies, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

Solganick is in the Lake County jail pending an initial court hearing.

The arrest concludes an investigation in which Solganick’s former neighbor, Brian Wisch, 47, no permanent address, was charged with three counts of home invasion, two counts of armed robbery and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, all felonies.

Wisch is accused of breaking into the home armed with a firearm and demanding money.

Authorities said Solganick shot Wisch in the stomach during the break-in. Wisch wrestled the gun away during an ensuing struggle and struck Solganick in the face and body with Solganick’s own pistol before fleeing.

Solganick was treated for serious wounds to his face and body, the Lake County Sheriff's Office reported at the time.

Wisch was found the next day, treated for the gunshot wound and released. He remains in custody.

Sheriff’s detectives learned Solganick was selling drugs out of his home. Police secured a search warrant and recovered nearly two pounds of cocaine and about $500,000 in cash, according to the sheriff’s office.
